What are Full Dentures?
It refers to an oral appliance that replaces an entire arch of missing teeth. This is why they are also called ‘complete dentures’. It stays on top of your gums and relies on the roof of the mouth (also known as the palate) or the lower jawbone ridge for support. Sometimes a prosthetist may also recommend a dental adhesive to keep your full dentures in position.
Â
They are recommended to patients who are experiencing complete tooth loss, which usually comes with age, trauma, extractions, etc. Sometimes, the patient may only need replacement of teeth in one jaw, so experts may suggest getting only an upper or lower denture rather than both.

3 Types of Full Dentures that We Offer
At FBA Dental Services, our prosthetists have seen it all and can produce many different types of oral items. When it comes to full dentures, we offer the following varieties
Conventional Full Dentures
These oral items are kept in place once all the patient’s teeth have been removed. The fitting is done once the gums have completely healed, which is usually around 2-3 months after extraction.
Immediate Full Dentures
They are usually placed in the mouth on the same day your remaining teeth are extracted. It helps you cope without your teeth while your mouth heals. If used for longer, they may need adjustment as the gums shrink.
Implant- Supported Dentures
It involves placing dental implants in the jawbone to help secure the dentures and make sure they remain in position. They are usually a lot more stable than regular removable dentures.

Our 4-Step Process: What to Expect
We always make sure that things are easier and less complicated for patients. The procedure for creating full dentures at our clinic basically goes like this.
Consult Us
When you come to the clinic, you will be asked many important questions to assess if you are ready for a denture or not. Your input plays a valuable role when going forward with the design of the full dentures. Do not panic if they feel you are not ready for them yet, as we do our best to recommend other alternatives.
Impression Collection
If we feel you can get dentures now, then the prosthetist will measure certain parts of your mouth (like gum, teeth, jawbone, etc.) with a soft putty-like substance.
Try-ins / Trials
After the oral appliance is ready, you will be asked to try it on to check whether or not any final adjustments are needed. It helps ensure functionality and maintenance of your oral health.
Final Fitting
Depending on our inputs during the try-in, corrections will be made before giving you the final version. When both parties are happy, the dentures are handed over, and after-care instructions are given. You can offer feedback or pose any important underlying queries that you may be having. The exact number of days that it takes to complete the making of your dentures will vary for each patient based on their unique needs and the course of action opted for by the prosthetist.
- After Care
After Care and Continued Support
Just because your full dentures have been handed over does not mean the journey is over. It is always possible that issues may arise later on. Hence, we make sure we stay in touch with patients even after the dentures have been given.

- Daily Care Tips
Be careful with your dentures and follow the right habits to maintain them. Not doing so can cause them to wear out slowly. Here are some good practices to follow
- Brush your dentures, gums, and jaw regularly using a soft-bristle toothbrush.
- Do not hold them at a height while cleaning or place them at an elevated position when not in use. They break if you drop them or if they fall.
- Brush the dentures using a non-abrasive toothpaste or other item recommended by a prosthetist.
- If you’re not going to be using them for a long while, you can soak them in a container using cold water or a denture-cleansing solution. If you opt for the latter, you may consult your prosthetist and seek their suggestions.
- Rinse the oral appliance well after brushing and after soaking to get rid of the dental solution.
- Never soak your full dentures in hot water, as this can cause certain materials to melt, which may weaken the oral item.

- Adjustments & Follow-Ups
Quite often, patients, especially those who are using full dentures for the first time, may need minor changes to be made to the apparatus. This is why follow-ups are important, and our experts know this well. Here is what you can do
- Stay in contact with the clinic even after receiving the dentures.
- Keep all receipts or related papers carefully.
- Let us know if you face a lot of pain while using them.
- If your range of motion in your mouth does not improve with time, changes may be needed.
We always tell patients to remain connected with us so that any issues can be addressed quickly.
- Routine Relines
Depending on the type of materials used to make your full dentures, a reline may be needed every few years. This is due to changes in your mouth dimensions due to the growth of the gums, weight loss, ageing, etc. There are two types of relines for dentures:
- Soft Reline: It is performed in a laboratory and can take up to one or two weeks. It is important to plan how you are going to cope during this before it happens.
- Hard Reline: This can be done using a kit, but should be performed by a certified professional. It is quicker and easier to execute.
Do not attempt to fix any oral appliance by yourself unless told to by the prosthetist.

Dr. Francois is very easy going, he really understood my concerns and reassured me that there wasn’t anything to worry about by getting dentures made for my father. He constantly reassured my father through the whole process and made a immaculate full denture. My Father hasn’t stopped smiling since he got his full se if dentures from Francois at FBA Dental Services. Once again thank you Francois, we both really appreciate your time, patience and flexibility.

- FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I chew normally after getting dentures?
At first, you may find it awkward, but slowly your mouth will get used to it, making it easier to chew normally.
Is it possible to whiten dentures?
You can whiten them using bleach, which counters stains that are hard to remove. There are professional teeth whitening procedures as well. However, both of these practices are discouraged and should be avoided.
How long does it take to get full dentures?
Generally, it takes around 2-6 weeks to get your dentures. But it varies from clinic to clinic.Â
What’s the difference between immediate and conventional full dentures?
The main difference between the two is that immediate dentures can be used right after extraction. The measurements and creation process for the immediate dentures start well before the extraction date. Conversely, the conventional ones are made after your teeth are removed, so there is more time for the mouth to heal.
How long do full dentures last?
It depends on how well you handle them and other variables, but they can usually survive for about 5-10 years.
Will full dentures look natural?
Yes. Most of the full false teeth produced today are designed to mimic the natural appearance of the gum and teeth. It makes them harder to notice, allowing you to blend in with your friends without feeling awkward.
Are full dentures uncomfortable?
Only at the beginning, when you are getting used to them. Gradually, the soreness will subside, making it feel more natural.
How much do full dentures cost in Australia?
It depends on the clinic, the type of methods used by the prosthetist and several other factors. You call us and discuss to get a better estimate. Â
